New Frugal Series category- WEDDING!!!!

Ok, so I have a ring. I keep looking at it too. I keep seeing it and wondering, “Wow, where did that come from?” Or I suddenly realize that my finger feels different and I check and see it and think. “Oh, yeah, that’s right, I forgot!” This is something I honestly didn’t think would happen in my lifetime. And although I tried to stop it, I have become one of those women other women hate, who seem to be talking about nothing else but an upcoming wedding, and all those little things that go into planning one and all the hoopla surrounding it.

But in my case, I’m talking a lot about a certain wedding aspect. Money.

It costs an average of 25,000- to 30,000 to put on a wedding in the United States. In Fairfax County, Virginia, where we live, the average rises to 35-40,000. Yeah, I know, apparently, we live in a “rich” area. I had no idea.

My parents have generously offered to pay the venue/caterer as their wedding gift. The rest will be DIY, services bartered, and other ways.

But both Star and I are organizers by nature, so with some planning, my art supply closet, and many friends with a variety of creative talents, we’re going to pull off one heck of a Hogwarts celebration.

Yes, I said Hogwarts.

HARRY. POTTER. THEME. WEDDING.

Yes, we are.

I am the Frugal Fangirl, after all, and no fangirl worth her salt is going to have a completely traditional mundane wedding. There are some wedding traditions I’m going to keep, some are just going to get tossed right out the window, but most will be changed to fit me and Star. We are a geeky, nerdy couple. And we relish in it. If the wedding wasn’t geeky and nerdy, it wouldn’t be ours.

So for the next several months, I will be having a lot of posts on my blog, FaceBook page, and my YouTube channel all about planning a wedding on a tight budget, how to negotiate and barter wedding needs, and how to (and there will be a lot) of DIY wedding crafts with a Harry Potter theme.

Cue the maniacal giggling and finger rubbing now.
